Snow Tubing with Midwest Adaptive Sports @ Snow Creek in Weston, MO (Northland)

Midwest Adaptive Sports is having an adaptive winter sports night at Snow Creek, in Weston, MO. They have allowed DSG to reserve 37 spots for our families, as this event fills up fast! Teens will have the opportunity to do Snow Tubing in a safe and welcoming environment, free of the crazy skiers and professional snow tubers! This is going to be a fun night of exercise, without even realizing it! Teens will need to provide their own warm clothes, gloves, etc to participate. Tubes will be provided. Time is 5-8pm. This event is hosted by Midwest Adaptive Sports, so it will NOT be staffed by DSG. The idea is that each teen takes a parent or older sibling with them to have a fun night! This is a FREE event through Midwest Adaptive Sports.

Registration is open! Email julie@kcdsg.org for information and registration link. This is FCFS for the 37 DSG spots available.

Wed., Jan. 16th, 2019 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Apple Pie Painting @ DSG

Apple Pie Painting will be at DSG to teach us how to use our creative minds to create beautiful works of art. Teens will be doing a piece called "Snowy Night." This event will consist mostly of teens sitting down and painting, getting up occasionally for a snack or drink while waiting for portions of their painting to dry. There will be blow dryers as well to help dry the paintings, which could be loud at times. Everything will be provided for teens, they need to only bring themselves!

Wed., Jan. 23rd, 2019 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Transition Bootcamp: Transition Planning & Self-Determination @ DSG

This event was originally scheduled in December, but we rescheduled it due to the Kauffman Center Nutcracker Event. If you were registered before, you will remain registered. Teens will be learning Self-Advocacy skills, while parents spend time learning about transition planning, funding for what comes after high school, person centered planning, and beginning to coordinate supports after high school to build independence.

The Mavericks Mascot, Mac, is having a birthday party and the Mavericks are celebrating with a Ninja Turtle themed night! It is Mac bobblehead give away night as well! DSG has reserved tickets in our favorite section, 101, at a discounted rate. At least one parent will need to attend with each teen. Parents will need to pay for their tickets ($14) and pay $5 for each teen ticket. DSG will cover the rest of the cost for teens. Parking is free at Independence Center. Last year this was a HUGE hit and everyone had a good time. Mavericks games are very family friendly, with lots of intermission entertainment for kids and teens. This year we get to go on Ninja Turtle night and Bobblehead give-away night! How cool! Reserve your tickets and bring as many family members as you like! DSG loves to give back to those in need. This will be a crafty evening for our teens.

Transition Bootcamp: Job Fair @ Sylvester Powell Community Center

Back by popular demand, STARS will host its Second Annual Job Fair! This year we will move the fair over to Sylvester Powell, so there is plenty of room to move around. Teens will have the opportunity to explore different employer booths, have a mock job interview, and practice filling out job applications. The intent is not for teens to get hired as this is strictly mock interviews, however, last year three teens were offered jobs during the process. The purpose of this event is to give teens the opportunity to practice in a safe environement.

Greatest Showman Night Under the Big Tent @ DSG
