Frequently Asked Questions
1. What kinds of activities will the teens be doing at camp?
Teens will participate in various activities ranging from arts and crafts, swimming (summer only), tree climbing, bounce houses, sports activities, dances, campfires, camping in a tent, etc. The possibilities are endless!

2. Do the cabins have air conditioning?
No. The cabins we will sleep in do not have air conditioning, but they do have cabin fans to keep the air moving. If you stay overnight you are welcome to bring a battery operated fan to use. There is no electricity in the cabins.

3. Will I be allowed to use my cell phone during camp?
You will be allowed to have your cell phone, however it will need to remain in your cabin during the day. If you are coming only for the day, we ask that it remain in your car, in your purse, or out of sight (in instances where you may need it for emergency purposes). We do not allow the campers to have cell phones so we ask that our volunteers not use them either. You may use your phone during breaks. You will also be able to charge your phone in the dining hall throughout the day or during mealtimes. You can leave your phone plugged in and no one will mess with it. We are the only ones at camp.

4. Will I get breaks if I do the overnight camp?
Yes. You will be provided time to take breaks, shower, etc. The camp supervisor will take into account any needs you may have.

5. Do I have to swim?
We will take into consideration your comfort level with swimming. Please indicate it on your application. You will definitely have more fun if you swim with the teens!

6. What kind of food is there and what if I am on a special diet?
The camp has cooks who make fresh, hot food for us daily. We will also have snacks. They take into account all special diets and will cook meals to fit everyones needs, just let us know!

7. Am I allowed to keep snacks in my cabin?
No food is allowed in the cabins.

8. How many campers will be in the cabins if I am a lead staff?
Each cabin will have no more than 6 campers and at least 2 adult staff/volunteers at all times. You will never be alone in a cabin with campers and would have ample training. Males will be with males and females with females.

9. I am not available all week, can I still sign up?
Yes. There are options on the application for your to indicate the days you are available.

10. Can I bring my children with me to volunteer?
Unless your children are older than 16 and capable of volunteering themselves, then no. No small children will be allowed at camp. We ask that if you volunteer you be committed to doing so.

If you have other questions, please email jp@kcdsg.org or call 913-689-2770. We will add more questions to this list as they are asked. Thank you for considering DSG to volunteer your time!
