Services for Schools

DSG offers resources to parents and educational professionals to better serve children with Down syndrome. We offer a variety of publications and trainings to assist educators. Please contact us if you have any additional needs or would like to request a peer presentation or training for your school district.

Parents and Schools in Partnership Program
Our Parents and Schools in Partnership Program promotes collaborative relationships between DSG and local school districts to effect positive outcomes for students with Down syndrome and their families. Special Education Directors are invited to breakfasts during the year to learn more about DSG and community resources that benefit their district and the students with Down syndrome.

A significant education connection is made as directors are encouraged to designate a staff person within the district to be the DSG Down Syndrome Specialist. The DSG Down Syndrome Specialist receives a resource binder, free registration to DSG sponsored educational events, DSG mailings and regular updates on research and best practices. They are also invited to breakfasts throughout the year to share feedback with DSG on their district’s unique needs. In some instances DSG provides individualized consultation and training for districts in need. DSG proudly partners with 20 school districts who have named Down Syndrome Specialists.

Practical Solutions for Educating Students with Down Syndrome
Practical Solutions for Educating Students with Down Syndrome seminars were developed and hosted to provide attendees strategies for supporting students in inclusive environments. These trainings were offered free of charge to local educators and received rave reviews. Over 500 educators participated in the Practical Solutions trainings during the 2006-2007 school year. All about Me Booklet
The "All About Me Booklet" is designed to help parents introduce their child with Down syndrome to their teachers. This 12 page booklet helps teachers better understand likes/dislikes, communication needs, strengths and learning needs. Educators, invite the parents of your student with Down syndrome to complete this valuable tool with your student!

Peer Presentations
Peer Presentations provide educators and families ideas on how to communicate to classmates about the differences, similarities and needs of individual with Down syndrome. Also included is a follow up letter you can send home with students.
