Frequently Asked Questions...

How much does it cost?

There are no fees for teens to participate in the STARS program.

Who can particpate?

Teens who have Down syndrome between the ages of 12 -18.

Do parents stay during the events?

Parents are encouraged to drop off their teen for STARS events. DSG provides plenty of support staff and volunteers to help with each event, and this allows the teens to hang out with their friends in a comfortable and safe setting.

What if my teen has their own paid support staff?

The DSG assumes that teens accompanied by support staff or family members will be supervised by these individuals.   DSG staff will refer supervision of that teens to their support staff or family member. Support staff and family members should communicate with DSG staff when they need assistance with supervision.

Do I need to RSVP to events or can my teen show up?

So that we can plan accordingly, DSG appreciates your RSVP in advance. You can email us or call 913.384.4848.

Is there food provided during these events?

The calendars denote if lunch/dinner or snacks are provided during our events. Details of each event will be forwarded in weekly reminder emails. Please indicate if your teen has any special dietary needs when providing an RSVP.

How long are events?

During the school year, events are typically held during the evening for two hours.  During winter, spring break, or summer camp events are held during the day for three hours.  Please check the calendar for an accurate start and end time.
